The foreigners who want to work in Türkiye legally are required to obtain a work permit or a work permit exemption document. For the foreigners who want to reside in Türkiye including family members of work permit holders, residence permit is another requirement.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Shipyards and Coastal Structures has issued an instruction based on the letter of the Ministry of Interior dated 07.08.2024 and numbered 59277437-000-284105, Regarding “Foreigners Working in Shipyards and Their Family Members”.
It is stated in the announcement that foreign companies that place orders for shipbuilding work to Turkish companies operating in shipyards established in our country assign their own representatives for the supervision and technical follow-up of the shipbuilding process and that these foreigners continue their work in our country under the supervision of the company that places the order, that the visa or visa exemption periods of foreign representatives are insufficient depending on the length of the shipbuilding process and that there are problems in ensuring that the residence permits requested are used in accordance with their purpose, and that there is a need for regulation on the subject.
Foreigners who are working as representatives in shipyards established in our country may be evaluated within the scope of work permit exemption based on the Article 13 of the International Labor Force Code No. 6735, and the foreigners in question may apply for work permit exemption within the legal period specified in the relevant legislation, and a residence permit may be issued to the family members of the said foreigners in accordance with the provisions of the Code on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458.
In this context;
- Foreigners who are working as representatives in shipyards established in our country must apply for work permit exemption within the framework of the Code No. 6735,
- Family members of the said foreigners must apply for a residence permit to the Ministry of Interior Directorate of Migration via “e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr” during the visa/visa exemption period they are in Türkiye and apply to the provincial migration administration directorates on the appointment date with the information and documents required for the application.
