The payment made to unemployed people who are covered by the unemployment insurance and who have become unemployed against their will, provided that they meet certain conditions defined in the Act No. 4447 and to be made for a certain period of time in-line with the aforementioned act is called “Unemployment Benefit.”
Insured people whose employment contracts have ended in a way that would entitle them to unemployment benefit are entitled to receive unemployment benefit provided that they apply to the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) in person within the due date and register that they are ready to take on a new job. The conditions for obtaining an unemployment benefit includes to be covered within the unemployment insurance for at least 600 days in the last three years before the termination of their employment contract, paid unemployment insurance premium in this period, and have been subject to an employment contract uninterruptedly in the last 120 days before the end of their contract.
The unemployment benefit is being paid 6 to 10 months, in accordance with the lenght of previous employment.
Daily unemployment benefit is forty percent of the daily average gross earnings calculated by taking into account the insured’s last four months’ premium-based earnings. The unemployment benefit amount calculated in this way cannot exceed eighty percent of the gross amount of the minimum wage according to the Article 39 of the Labour Code No. 4857.
In all workplaces and regardless of age, the minimum wage will be applied as TRL 666.75 gross per day and TRL 20,002.50 gross per month for the calendar year of 2024.
For the period 01.01.2024-31.12.2024, the monthly unemployment benefit amount will be applied as a minimum of TRL 8,001.00 and a maximum of TRL 16,002.00 based on the minimum wage of TRL 20,002.50. Payment is made by deducting 7.59 per thousand stamp duty from these amounts.
In this case, the allowance amounts are between the amounts of net TRL 7,940.27 and TRL 15,880.54 after the stamp duty deduction, respectively.
Unemployment benefit applications are finalized by the end of the following month. Unemployment benefit is paid to the unemployed person monthly on the fifth of each month. The Minister of Labour and Social Security is authorized to bring forward the payment date upon administrative decision to be taken. Insured unemployed people can apply to any PTTBank branch with their ID Card with the Turkish ID Number and receive their unemployment benefits.
