In accordance with the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510, “funeral allowance” constitutes one of the social security benefits provided to insured people and their beneficiaries in Turkey.
For the beneficiaries of the insured who died as a result of a work accident or occupational disease, or while receiving permanent disability income, disability, duty disability or old-age pension, or for whom at least 360 days of disability, old-age and decease social insurance premiums have been declared, “funeral allowance” will be paid. The funeral allowance is being determined by the Board of Directors of the Social Security Institution for each year and this tariff is being approved by the Minister of Labour and Social Security.
Funeral allowance is given to the insured’s spouse, if not, to his/her children, to his/her parents, or to his/her siblings.
The amount of funeral allowance for the calendar year of 2024 is determined as 3,385.00 Turkish Liras.
In case the funeral allowance cannot be paid to the relatives listed above and the funeral of the insured person is carried out by real or legal persons, documented expenses, as not to exceed the amount determined by the Social Security Institution, are paid to the real or legal persons who made the expenses.
If the beneficiaries of the deceased who work as public servants and are insured according to 4/-(c) social insurance status of the Act No. 5510 are paid funeral expenses, funeral transportation expense allowance or a payment of this nature, excluding death benefit, in accordance with the relevant legislation, by their own institutions, a separate payment will not be made by the Social Security Institution as funeral allowance.
