According to the Article 18 of the Vocational Training Law No. 3308, employers are obliged to employ interns for businesses employing ten or more personnel.
Regulations regarding the wages of candidate apprentices and apprentices and students who receive vocational training in enterprises, who continue their internship or complementary education, as well as the duration of state contribution payments are as follows:
According to the Vocational Training Law No. 3308, it has been decided that the payments to be made to candidate apprentices and apprentices and students receiving vocational training in enterprises, continuing internship or complementary education cannot be less than 30 percent of the net amount of the national monthly minimum wage.
Payments to be made to senior students of vocational training centers who have gained journeyman qualification cannot be less than 50 percent of the gross national monthly minimum wage.
A certain part of the minimum wage that can be paid to students studying in schools and institutions other than the vocational training center program is covered by the state as support to employers.
Accordingly, two-thirds of the wage paid for businesses employing less than twenty personnel, one-third of the wage paid for enterprises employing twenty or more personnel, and the entire wage paid to students attending the vocational training center program will be paid as support to employers. The incentive in question is paid to employers to encourage the employment of interns.
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission has determined the minimum wage to be applied in the period 01.01.2024-31.12.2024 as TRL 20,002.50 gross and TRL 17,002.12 TL net, as of January 2024. There was an increase of 49.11 percent compared to 2023’s minimum wage. After the new increase, minimum intern wage levels will be as shown below:
TRL 10,001.25 to senior students of the vocational training center who have gained the qualification of journeyman
TRL 5,100.64 for students receiving vocational education in businesses and students receiving internship or complementary education in vocational and technical secondary schools and institutions (for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students and university students).
