The work of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission has been completed as of 22nd of December 2022. The new monthly minimum wage, which will be effective for the calendar year of 2023 as of January 1, is being announced to the public at a meeting attended by President Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin and TİSK President Özgür Burak Akkol. Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay has not attended to the meeting as to protest due to higher demands of unions.
Speaking at the meeting, President Erdoğan announced that the net monthly minimum wage is being determined as 8 thousand 506 Turkish Liras, with an increase of 54,66 percent. The minimum wage for the second half of the year 2022 was previously 5 thousand 500 liras.
Accordingly, there was an increase of 54.66 percent in the minimum wage compared to 1st of July and 100 percent compared to the beginning of the year 2022.
With the latest announcement the national monthly minimum wage in Turkey has increased to over USD 455. This means an approximate 45% real increase in terms of USD.
The new minimum wage will be effective from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023. President Erdoğan announced that in case of an unexpected situation in the inflation rates, they will be able to make interim arrangements, as they did in the year 2022.
Accordingly, the gross minimum wage will be 10 thousand 8 liras, and the total cost to the employer will be 11 thousand 750 liras.
