Unemployment Allowance is one of the rights that is being provided to employees according to the Turkish Labour Law. The unemployment allowance is being implemented in line with the Unemployment Insurance Act No. 4447 of 1999.
Among those insured whom employment contracts are ended as to qualify to unemployment allowance can get unemployment benefit by applying for getting the benefit to the Turkish Labour and Employment Agency. It is necessary to have at least 600 days of insured working days prior to the end of the employment contract and having at least 120 days of continuous working before the end of the employment contract.
If the employee has,
- 600 days prior to the end of the employment contract he/she will get 180 days,
- 900 days prior to the end of the employment contract he/she will get 240 days,
- 1,080 days prior to the end of the employment contract he/she will get 300 days,
of unemployment allowance as to be paid by the Provincial Directorate of the Turkish Labour and Employment Agency from the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
The unemployment allowance is related with the amount of the wage of the employee and the national minimum income.
The minimum wage for all workplaces and for all ages is being determined as TRL 333.60 per day, and TRL 10,008.00 per month for the calendar year of 2023.
Accordingly, the monthly unemployment allowance amount will be applied as minimum TRL 4,003.20 and as maximum TRL 8,006.40 for the period of 01.01.2023 – 31.12.2023. These amounts are being paid by deducting 0.759 % stamp duty. As to note, if the minimum wage will increase in July 2023 the unemployment allowance will be updated accordingly.
In this case, net appropriation amounts for unemployment allowance are between TRL 3.972,82 and TRL 7.945,63 after deduction of stamp duty. The following table show the amounts of unemployment allonwace amounts for Turkish employees in the calendar year of 2023.
